This may be the dumbest article I have ever read. How can you compare the #2 overall pick one year with the #56 pick this year??? This years draft was considered one of the weakest in recent history, and you think taking a chance on a point guard with the 5th to LAST pick, will be a big regret? Most 2nd rounders spend a year in the D-League and never make it to an NBA game anyway.

No kidding, what a bonehead article. Siva was impressive in Orlando and had strong support from the Piston fan base. In addition, the pick that used was an unexpected pick that come from the Clippers as part of a trade the Pistons did for Alex Acker in 2009. It was practically a gift, and Dumars made took a good risk for a good long term prospect.

  2. Great work on the piece. I see where you’re coming from as far as Siva being more hype than talent. Especially on a team that seems to be ok at the point guard position w billups, and jennings, Siva may be the odd ball out. I look forward to more pieces. Keep pushing

While Milicic may have been the number 2 overall pick, he only averaged 1.6 points and 1.2 rebounds. While playing for the pistons for three straight seasons he only played in 96 total games. Of those 96 total games he only actually started in just 3. It was ultimately the Pistons passing their bad trade onto Orlando that allowed the Pistons to take Rodney Stuckey in 2007.
So here we are back to looking at Siva he may be the number 56th pick this year, however he has already showed more skill when looking at his game averages coming out of college then Milicic did during his entire career with the Pistons. Dumars has learned that being a number 2 pick means nothing. The article is merely pointing out that in my opinion Dumars is putting too much focus on the numbers from one and not the effect on the team as a whole and since he publicly stated his regret on the Milicic trade I feel that in the future he will state the same about the Siva draft.

I still don’t get it. Siva was drafted in the 2nd round. Dumars didn’t pass up a potential all-star to draft Siva. Why would he regret a cheap one year contract (2nd year team option) on a kid who did well in college, did well in summer league, bonded with AD, and seems to be a great teammate? Just not understanding your point.

Siva is as safe as they come for Dumars to pick. He has a very low Assist to Turnover Ratio, Plays solid Defense, and just flat out plays hard on every single play. That is what a lot of NBA players lack, is that hustle play at all times. In addition to that, it is a 1 year low contract, and he was picked in the second round. That as as safe and as smart of a pick as they come. Siva did better than “Player of the Year” Trey Burke in the summer league, and he played less minutes.
